Let NaNoWriMo begin!

Recently I began a short course on "writing for children", alas, two lessons into the course, the teacher became ill and the course has been postponed until later this month. This means it now coincides with NaNoWriMo - National Novel Writing Month. And thus, I shall finally fall to writing the astounding adventures of Aroha the Weka. What will Aroha's adventures entail? Well, she's going to be travelling Coast to Coast in the South Island of New Zealand. On foot - because wekas can't fly. The completed story will be around 25,000 words and contain at least 25 pictures. Why this exact amount you ask? Because the idea of NaNoWriMo is to write a 50,000 word novel in a month. And a picture paints a thousand words, right?

Day One - Chapter one = complete
Wordcount: 1612

She was being carried further and further from her home near the river named Grey.

But she was weka and she would not snap!

So instead, she set her feet firm and held her beak high.

Maybe in the next great Legend, SHE could be the hero.
